Sex, sexuality and sexual health can often be skipped over as an important aspect of wellbeing, relationships and over-all life satisfaction. However, as a social-emotional species we have an innate sexual-sensual element that's unable to be ignored forever... at least we can't ignore it without eventually feeling some sort of undesired consequence.
Sexual health isn't just about the act of sexual intercourse- in fact it is about so, so much more. It's not even just about orgasm or reproduction. I like to reference the "Circles of Sexuality" by Dr. Dennis M. Dailey, when I explain the vastness of sexuality. It's a holistic framework for understanding sexuality and includes the following: Sensuality, Sexualization, Sexual Health and Reproduction, Intimacy, Sexual Identity and Values. There are subsets of each of those categories too.
It's important to understand more about sexuality- what it is and is not- in order to deepen, enhance or otherwise change your experience with it.
Whether you're an individual, couple or parent, as a therapist and educator, I support clients with exploring sexual health from this more holistic perspective, and together we incorporate tools and techniques based on your needs, your wants and your goals for your sexual experience and understanding. Sexual health can be fun to explore, but it is also a very senstive subject for many, many people- so it can feel terrifying to explore too. Together, we will broach this essential area in a way that helps to provide relief or enhancement in a way that's designed uniquely for you.
